National Hunt Racing

National Hunt Race which is now generally called Jump Racing
takes place thought the year but the main season is November to
April with the highlight being the Cheltenham Festival.
National Hunt or Jump racing has two main types of races;
these are Chase and Hurdle races. Chase races involve jumping
over the large fences and Hurdle races which are the smaller
ones. In addition to these two race types there is a third
called National Hunt Flat (NHF) or bumper races.
These types of flat races are usually the last race to be run
at the meeting and are introduction type races. There are not as
many high profile jump meetings compared to the flat but they do
get good viewing figures on TV. Some of the main races of the
jumps season are;
Another good race is the Whitbread Gold Cup run at Sandown
(April). It’s not called the Whitbread Gold Cup anymore, but
will always be know as the Whitbread.
