Flat Racing Heavy Weights
Someone once asked me why do national hunt horses carry large weights after all they have further to race and obstacles to jump, well to be honest no idea but it does lead me onto something I would like to discus with you.
As just pointed out national hunt racing or jump racing if you like the runners carry more weight than normally found in flat racing, but does it make any difference.
Well one would expect it does in that it slows a runner down, but does it really slow it that much so it cannot win, well no is the answer and in fact it can pay to follow these runners.
Looking at results from 2014 revels that horses that carried between ten and eleven stone on the flat whether it be turf or all-weather did surprisingly well providing it was a handicap.
This nice profit is not something I expected but a profit was made, however that is not the full story because there is one last piece of the jigsaw that I have not told you about which I will do now.
The last bit of information that you need to know is that these heavy weights running in handicaps on the flat only succeed in making a profit if they started the race as the favourite.
So with a little bit of work from what was just a simply question we have managed to find a small nugget which hopefully will reap some reward this year.
There are not that many races in which runners carry this amount of weight so you will have to hold your fire for these types of horses but could very well be worth the wait in the long run.
