Best Time For Backing Favourites
Was asked a question about favourites the other day
which got me thinking as to when was the best time
of the year in which to back them.
So decided that the best place to start would be
now, that is November and set the analyse software
to look at how top rated favourites have got on
since the start of 2008 during the month of
After testing for a while I managed to come up with
the following which gives us about one or two
runners per day and involves backing runners that
are in the top three rated in all our ratings which
are Combined, Horse, Sire, Trainer and Jockey.
This means it must be in the top three rated in all
ratings not just one or two sets of ratings provided
that it starts the race as the jolly old favourite
and it's a none handicap.
This gave about a 55% strike rate with approximately
1% profit which does not sound much but as I have
said before get 9/4 instead of 2/1 and that 1%
increases to over 10%.
Not only that but favourites have a habit of getting
back right down which means we would get an even
bigger profit margin.
You will need to check for these qualifying runners
for yourselves as I have not really had time to set
things up so that selections appear online.
