March System Cheltenham Festival
With the Cheltenham Festival
taking centre stage during this month the March
system is for just this meeting.
As you will no doubt be aware the
field sizes at this meeting can be large and fining
a system was not that easy but I have come up with
one based on the horse ratings.
I started by looking at results of
backing the top rated in the horse ratings since the
start of 2008 but there was no profit to be had so
then looked at how the top three had got on, but it
was the same story.
A good filter to try is look at
results for either handicap or non-handicap races
and by doing this I found there was a profit backing
the top three rated in the horse ratings provided it
was a handicap race.
So how can we improve this more?
Well the one thing we do know is that information can
very quickly get passed around very quickly at
Cheltenham which means that the
odds can shorten which makes it far more difficult
to make a profit.
With this in mind I then
concentrated my efforts on the first few races for
each day and found that by only backing
runners which ran before 4pm there was a good
profit, results below.
Strike Rate 13%
Strike rate is not great but then
again as I have said there are large fields but you
can get more out of this system by only backing the
runner if the trainers form is marked down as below
The reason for this I think could
be trainers not wanting to send their best horses
out before the festival as there could be a chance
of injury and therefore only runners which are not
quite ready are racing.
Trainer Recent Form Below
Strike Rate 22%
When the Cheltenham Festival gets
under way next week you can pick up the qualifying
runners by going to the monthly system page and
selecting Cheltenham Festival from the drop down
Please Note: If
you are intending to follow only trainer with below
average form then you will need to check the
qualifying runners in the form guide to see if the
recent trainer form is below average, currently this
in not included but will be added hopefully by
