Cheltenham Festival
Four days in march...
The roar of the crowd as the tapes rise for the first race of
the festival tells you everything. There is plenty of
entertainment on offer in-between races through the trade
stands, musical offerings in all enclosures.
During the Cheltenham Festival the week over half a billion
pounds is bet on the outcome of the races and over 200,000
people will pass through the gates to soak up the atmosphere.
Principal race on Tuesday is The Smurfit Kappa Champion
Hurdle, the Irish have won seven of the last nine races.
Wednesday the Queen Mother Champion Chase take centre stage for
the best two mile chasers over the famous Cheltenham fences. On
Thursday The Ladbrokes World Hurdle takes centre stage for a
three mile contest.
Then comes Friday and the highlight of the meeting the Tote
Cheltenham Gold Cup. This is the race that every owner trainer
and jockey dreams of winning and Kauto Star will be looking to
add his name to those of Golden Miller, Arkle and Best Mate as
multiple winners of this race.
